As an athlete, here is how you should look at leverage. Naval, famous entrepreneur and investor thinks of LEVERAGE in four forms: Capital, Labor, Code, Media.
Leverage gives you the ability to build an enterprise, create structure and stability, and have more clarity within your ecosystem.
This is what LEVERAGE looks like from the Athlete C.E.O perspective...
Capital: Leverage Money - As an athlete you can leverage the capital you make. From salary to endorsements, your unique circumstances as an athlete to make a good amount of money at an early age allows you to compound your investments. Using your wealth to invest in avenues like stocks, real estate, ventures, etc
Labor: Leverage Performance - As an athlete, labor can mean different things. Labor can mean performance, people, proximity, etc …. Your performance as a player creates opportunities for you both on and off the field. As an athlete, you can leverage your people to create a team to build structure. Your proximity enables you to build a network which leads to more unique opportunities.
Code: Leverage Tech - Code from Naval’s perspective is tech skills but your code is your ability to play at the highest level. Is your code. Playing professional sports is no small feat. Use that as your “code” to create domain expertise for opportunities in your field.
Media: Leverage Content / Attention - Athletes should use content to amplify their reach and influence. Athletes should create their own media platforms through digital, social, and written outlets whether a Newsletter, Youtube, or Podcast. Attention and distribution is the a great currency to have.
What do you think about these forms of Leverage? What are you leaning into in terms of Leverage? Where should athletes focus on?
