You might be tired of us saying that every athlete is an enterprise but we are going to keep screaming it from the mountain tops. In this current day and age, every athlete that plays at an elite level has the ability to become an enterprise at whatever capacity they choose if done right.
We are in unique time period, where athletes are at the center of everything from sports to lifestyle to fashion to media to culture and my favorite... business.
The problem is that athletes are being fed the wrong information in how to be proactive about building opportunities to grow and blossom into an enterprise.
Here are the 5 things every athlete needs to become an enterprise...
Performance
The on field will take care of the off field. Keep the main thing the main thing. That's not to say don't focus on what's going on off the field but it's important to focus on what got you here in the first place. Your ability to play at a high level consistently and perform amongst the best at your sport. If you're not focused on your performance than the opportunities and door you're hoping to open won't even be there to begin with. It's easier to stay relevant when you're playing, and playing well I might add.
Personal Brand & Reputation
As an athlete, your reputation can either be a powerful asset or a liability. Build a brand that aligns with who you are authentically, reflecting your values, interests, and future aspirations. Your brand is the story that connects you to fans, businesses, and investors.
Media & Content Creation
You need a digital playbook and for sure either a newsletter, a youtube channel, a podcast, and some sort of social media presence [instagram/tik tok] . You have to control your own narrative by actively creating content that resonates with your audience and allows you to expand your reach across industries.
Business Team & Strategic Partnerships
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." It's vital that you not only build a team but the right team to help you bring your vision to life, protect you from any blindspots, and align your ventures with your values. Not everyone has the luxury to have a full staff or family office but if you're looking for a start, go with the triple AAA strategy. Attorney, Accountant, Agent/Advisor/Admin [depending on where you're at in your career].
Education
This is a non negotiable. Educating yourself will allow you to be more proactive in your business while giving you clarity and confidence to make more informed decisions thus giving you more leverage. Whether it's formal school, through books, executive courses, etc it doesn't matter just make sure you're on the front foot.
