As athletes, your influence extends beyond the game. Building a sustainable career requires not only physical skill but a solid platform to share your journey and connect with opportunities. Like we emphasize continually on this platform, as an athlete you're an enterprise Here are three essential tools every athlete should leverage: Newsletter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Newsletter - Building Your Tribe
Why it matters: A newsletter keeps your supporters updated and engaged. Share your journey, lessons learned, upcoming events, and exclusive content that goes beyond what you post publicly. A newsletter is the most "sticky" connection because you're able to get their most precious form of contact, email!
Pro Tip: Send out a monthly newsletter to your subscribers with insights, training tips, or behind-the-scenes stories. This direct communication fosters a loyal community and opens doors for future partnerships.
LinkedIn - Network & Opportunities
Why it matters: LinkedIn is more than a professional platform—it’s a place to build connections that align with your current and post-sport career goals. LinkedIn is the platform for individuals that are intentional, you're not on LinkedIn for entertainment. You're there to learn, connect, get a job, or do a deal 99.9% of the time. As an Athlete C.E.O. why wouldn't you be on a platform like that?
Pro Tip: Share career updates, passions or projects your interested about, lessons from the field, and thoughts on topics that matter to you. Engaging on LinkedIn regularly helps solidify your position as a professional, attracting potential collaborations and partnerships.
YouTube - Showcase Your Story
Why it matters: YouTube allows you to give a real, unfiltered look into your life. It's your own media company without having to go to Hollywood for clearance. Whether it’s training, game highlights, or personal insights, video content creates a strong bond with your audience. This is not just your own tv show, it's your own TV channel / network.
Pro Tip: Post a weekly or bi-weekly video. This could be training tips, a day-in-the-life, or motivational insights. YouTube is also a great way to monetize and build a lasting digital footprint. In fact, Youtube is still in my opinion the best social monetization platform if done right.
